Lesbians orgasm more than straight women?

Category: Truth or Myth

The goal of every sexual activity is to attain the coveted orgasms that come with intense pleasure, especially with the stimulation of the erogenous zones. However, orgasms differ among individuals depending on gender and sexual orientation. Sexologists and researchers have tried to establish if lesbians are more likely to climax during sexual activity than bisexual or heterosexual female partners. The rest of this post focuses on establishing the truth is the popular narrative that argues lesbians orgasm more than straight women.

Do Lesbians Orgasms more than Heterosexual Women?

According to a 2018 report from The Guardian, researchers have carried out many studies that found lesbians have better sex than females in straight relationships. A study authored in the Journal of Sexual Medicine in 2014 established that 75% of women who had sex with women achieved orgasm during sex. However, the report found that only 61% of straight women orgasm during sex.

Another more extensive survey from Kinsey Institute established that lesbians climaxed in 86% of the instances they had sex compared to 65% of heterosexual women. Lloyd and colleagues also conducted a similar study in 2014 involving a nationally representative target population of 6,151 men and women. The survey demonstrated that the rate of orgasm varied depending on sexual orientation in women. The average occurrence rate of orgasm stood at 61.6% for straight women, 58% for bisexual females, and 74.8% for lesbians. Interestingly, men reported consistently more orgasms in this study than women.

Reason for the Disparities

Women Know their Bodies

Most men and nearly everyone who identifies with masculinity have a very narrow idea of what good sex should happen. Their ideal sexual activity mainly focuses on penetrative sex meant to showcase skills leading to their own climaxing. This approach compromises the goal of sexual engagement intended to benefit both partners through orgasms.

However, sexual health therapists argue that lesbians know what they want and understand the erogenous zones that trigger orgasms. A lesbian knows where the clitoris is and understands how to deal with it to achieve orgasm. Thus, she does not need to show her lesbian companion what to do, which improves and guarantees their sexual satisfaction.

Duration and Frequency

Researchers Blair and Pukall launched a study in 2014 to examine the frequency and duration of sex among heterosexual and same-sex couples. They surveyed 822 respondents aged between 18 and 79 years. The results indicated a reduced level of sexual frequency among lesbian couples.

However, the study discovered a significant disparity in sexual duration. Lesbians reported an average of 30 to 40 minutes of their sexual activity, while partners in other relationships averaged 15 to 30 minutes. Women take longer than men to orgasm, which they achieve through the extended sex duration in same-sex relationships.

 Prioritizing Male Orgasm in Heterosexuals

Some versions of sex education and cultures try to depict the primary aim of heterosexual sexual acts is to attain male orgasm. Unfortunately, the current heterosexual engagements do not leave room to practice sex beyond such norms. Some people conclude that sex is always complete whenever the male partners orgasm. Such notions give little or no consideration to the female partner’s sexual pleasure and deny them a chance to reach their orgasm. Luckily, lesbians focus on mutual sexual pleasures and everything end when both partners climax.

There is an important lesson here for heterosexual couples to learn. It is essential to rethink their intimacy script for mutual gains moving forward. In most cases, frequent, short penetrative sexual intercourse does not guarantee satisfaction for both partners. Both men and women in straight relationships want sex. However, women do not just want sex but good sex in every encounter. This means that bad sex can be a potential deal breaker in relationships.
