3 Sex Myths That Men Believe

Category: Truth or Myth

Everyone picked up a fair share of sex misconceptions growing up, especially in their teenage years. Unfortunately, some myths may persist until late adulthood and affect how people relate to sexual lives. Some individuals may feel too embarrassed to discuss sex with peers because such topics are taboos in many communities. They thus hold on to common narratives they have ever heard about sex, considering them true without further questioning. The discussion below tries to debunk the top 3 sex myths that men believe.

The Longer the Sex, the Better
Many people out there associate quickies with lack of romance and laziness. However, embracing a quickie with your partner can spice things up in your sex life. Sexual activity does not always have to take hours or the whole night to be good enough as many male folks think.

Research surveying American and Canadian sex therapists established that both men and women prefer a relatively shorter duration of sex than people may think. The researchers found that the desirable sex duration was between 7 to 13 minutes. Any sex that took between 10 to 30 minutes was considered too long.

These findings contradict the famous perception propelled by men who believe that long sessions of steamy actions in the bedroom are the way to go. Interestingly, some women end up faking orgasms as a signal to end the game, probably when they feel it’s enough. A quickie is also a form of romance, especially for busy partners to connect. While men may think they need a lot of time and energy for long sex, their partners may be yearning for short moments of pleasure.

Bigger is Always Better
The compatibility of genital sizes between partners during sex plays a significant role in mutual satisfaction. Many men believe that having a big penis guarantees their partner exceptional sexual pleasure. A large penis may be uncomfortable to women with a small vagina in heterosexual relationships.

Additionally, knowing how to use a penis properly is more significant than the obsession with the size in any relationship. You may have the equipment but fail to know how to operate the machinery, as some sex therapists put it. There is simply no correlation between a man’s ability to perform well in bed and the size of his manhood. The biggest concern with smaller penises is merely how men perceive them.

Hymen Presence Equals Virginity
This is an old-fashioned assumption that a woman’s hymen is the right part to assess if you wish to know when a lady is still a virgin. People in different communities attach a lot of significance to the hymen as a purported indicator of virginity. However, this narrative is far from the truth as the hymen cannot be used to tell females’ sexual history.

The hymen is a thin membrane that covers the vaginal orifice and varies in size and shape among individuals. Usually, it does not cover the entire vaginal opening to allow menses and other vaginal discharges from the reproductive system. If fact, some neonates are born without a hymen. Others are born with an imperforate hymen that requires a surgical operation to correct.

Penetrative intravaginal sex and other rigorous physical activities can cause injuries to the hymen leading to tearing. However, many women may not experience such tearing as the hymen stretches to allow comfortable sex. These variations disapprove of the popular narrative among many men that argue you can use hymen to ascertain if a lady has ever had sex.
